I just ran across this syllabus for David Foster Wallace’s class at Illinois State University, “English 102-Literary Analysis: Prose Fiction Fall 1994.” This is two years before Infinite Jest came out. Fascinating. I get the sense that he was probably too aloof and hard-charging as a teacher, maybe like he was less generous and forgiving with his students than he was with his readers and with his characters. In any case, what a treasure to have this window on Normal, Ill. in 1994.
